That's probably behind the policy for Northern to not try and reinstate peak time extras on some routes, so that it's easier for them to run all services even if crews aren't able to report for work.
OR taking advantage of the DfT request to withdraw trains they don't want to run - SouthEasterm have announced a return to the full service from 31st January.
There are no trains this weekend between West Kirby and Birkenhead North, due to bridge replacement works at West Kirby,
Could trains not operated as far as Hoylake, or are there other works going on

It depends where the electric isolations are, in this case it’s not possible to get to Hoylake.
The West Kirby trains are being diverted to New Brighton this weekend, as was the case last weekend, so the frequency between Birkenhead North and Liverpool is unchanged.
Nothing major i don't think, but an incident at New Brighton on Saturday

Some rubbish caught fire under a train in one of the sidings, put out quickly and no damage
Was the disruption late Sunday evening due to a fallen tree at Sandhills, platform 2 (or on the approach)?
Was a train damaged by the fallen tree, seemed to disrupt services heavily for the remainder of the evening.

Was a train damaged by the fallen tree, seemed to disrupt services heavily for the remainder of the evening.

507008 on a Liverpool to Kirkby service hit a tree branch on the approach to Sandhills. It wasn’t badly damaged but the large branch was stuck under the train, so trains were routed on the bi directional line from Leeds St for the rest of the evening until the tree branch could be cut away, obviously causing delays to all northern line services
From the 14th Feb, Merseyrail are increasing the number of trains run to almost the level before the omicron variant hit, sickness levels have improved now.
20 mins all lines except Ellesmere Port 30 mins and Chester 15 mins

Thanks for the information regarding the disruption on Sunday.
Do you know what unit was involved in the fire incident at New Brighton?
I noticed from a photo on social media quite a few trains are stabled at New Brighton at the moment, including 507002, which seems to have been stabled in the wall sidings since the start of Jan-any idea whats up with this unit?
