looks like the end for 507006 and possibly the other unit coupled to it ...

The other unit coupled to 507006 was 507021.
I believe 507021 went back to Kirkdale depot earlier this evening as 5K48 (unaided).
I haven't heard of any damage to 507021.

was thinking the impact could of caused like a weakening to other parts, i'm sure it'll have a once over to make sure
I have seen on another forum that there "could" be a possibility for 507006 to return to service IF merseyrail decide to do that.

There is potentially a spare class 313 driving coach
( identical in every way to the 507/508 driving coaches but can be powered from 25Kv AC power as well as 750v DC.

The 313 driving coach although in a different livery could be brought up and coupled to the other 2 coaches of 507006, but like I said, IF merseyrail decide to do that.

Also I would like to add that in light of my post #3256 I have contacted 1 of the moderators and informed them of what was said and explain what I meant to say.

I would also like to ask members to please be considerate as I have dyslexia and dyspraxia and possibly aspergers as well which may cause me to goof up at times.

Thankyou

I don't think there is a spare 313 coach available at the moment. Two of Southern's, 313203 and 313220, have both recently suffered on-board fires but I understand they are to be repaired. All Great Northern's 313s were scrapped soon after retirement in late 2019. It would also be a major task to convert a 313 coach to run with a 507 as there are a number of differences between them.

Sadly, I'd say it's too late in the day for the 507 and 508 fleets to consider repairing 507006 after so severe an accident. 507006 will surely be scrapped following investigation while 507021 is likely to survive assuming any damage to it is minimal. It's a real shame as 507006 has always been one of my favourite units.

Up to 14 Class 507s are set to be retained until 2023 for peak services on the Southport line. A list of those to be retained based on the overhaul programme had 507021 on the list (only just) while 507006 was not included.

The overhaul period, I understand, is to be extended to keep the required number in operation whilst the 777 commissioning/training is delayed through COVID and other factors.
That means that some units which were not on the overhaul list may well now be overhauled

Given the position and condition of the front coach and the problems extracting it, it wouldn’t surprise me if it was cut up on site

I also wonder structural damage there is to the rails under the train , the platform has also suffered some damage as well from what i have seen .

Does look like Kirkby will be out of commission for a little while .
508101 also ended up under the bridge after running through the buffers there in the 1990s
As pure speculation could the 2 good cars off 507006 be married up with a car off the next 507 or 508 to be withdrawn?
