Personally I find the way First ScotRail do their on-board ticketing to be excellent and Merseyrail could learn a lot from their approach. On the Cathcart and Inverclyde Lines at least, there is no guard on the train per se, just a ticket inspector. Fares are sold on the train but with no railcard discounts available, and the inspector passes through the train between each stop so no one gets away. Plus, their inspectors are usually very friendly and well-mannered people. Without wanting to sound too critical, Merseyrail's RPIs are nowhere near as polite.
I agree and I have been told by a former guard that ME were getting ticket machines, but this was scrapped. The blonde haired woman, Kiera I think her name was strikes me as particuarly unfriendly, based upon the programme and the times I've had the pleasure of bumping into her on the network. On tha other hand, some of them, the small fella at eport with her and Derek are very friendly and I always speak to Derek when ever I see him. A very nice guy and that footage of the assault was terrible.

Another thing that bugged me about the programme was the blatant subbing in of other sounds such as the 156 esque brakes on 507024 at Southport and the "electrostar ac motor hum"... Itl be a few more years before these tunes plague the network... God I hate electrostars!! Wink
Was surprised to see that Merseyrail/ Network Rail have paid for contractors to clean the walls of the wirral line platform at Liverpool Central, was expecting them to just let it turn slowly black...

Lime St will be closing on Sun 21 April for refurb, reopening on Thur 22 August. There's also a 4 week blockade of the loop between Mon 15 July and Sat 10 August. Anyone know what work will be taking place? Track renewals maybe?

Where is the info about the loop closure?

In the Network Rail Engineering Access Statement (EAS) for this year, it doesn't appear, or even mention the possibility of the closure in the possessions register.

Only engineering work planned (originally at least) was:

James St Refurb
James St Refurb
Tamping & Renewals - Walton Jn
Tamping & Renewals - Lpool Central
Hooton resignalling
Hooton resignalling
Lime St Refurb
Lime St Refurb
Lime St Refurb
Hooton renewals
Hooton renewals
Hooton/Rferry renewals
Brunswick track renewals
Tamping & Renewals - HX West Jn
Tamping at Bidston East Jn
I saw some info about the loop closure displayed at several stations today. Only at a glancing look, but it defo said Monday-Friday Liverpool loop. Didn't see the dates as i was rushing for a train...

As LVC said, the loop is shut from Mid July to Mid August with trains turning back at James St but, except for weekends and evenings, there will be a Ellesmere Port to Hooton shuttle
Wonder if a shuttle bus service will be laid on between st georges hall, central, moorfields and james st stations while the loop is closed like they did when central was shut for refurb?

Yes a loop shuttle bus will be in operation. Also when Lime Street is shut for refurb there will be a St Georges Hall - Moorfields shuttle bus in operation (no operator has been awarded the contracy yet AFAIK).

HTH
Would anyone be able to advise if 507008 will be in service tomorrow and on which line please? Wouldn't find photographing the nameplate for my website. Grateful thanks in advance.
