The word chaos seems an overstatement for one train being terminated short and the following one being late. Presumably the first one being terminated short was intended to get services back to their scheduled time, rather than remaining late all day, with one train load of passengers being unfortunate and having their journey disputed the most. It might be a different matter if the 21:06 Lime Street to Newcastle started short, given the following service only goes as far as Manchester Victoria.

I have noticed over the past few weeks the four units stabled on the platform overnight have shunted into the sidings.

There used to be a 3 car unit stabled in siding 2, which worked 5N30 (from Chester line), and 5Y02 the following morning. However since the winter timetable came to an end, this seems now not to be the case. Does anyone know whether if this is due to the sidings being required for stabling of the New Brighton units?

Yes, there is station/sidings work going on - it’s been on for a while and for some more weeks as well.
5N30 usually runs to Birkenhead North (5B30) if it can’t get into the sidings.
If it’s only the platforms affected, 5N57 from West Kirby goes into one of the sidings as do the units which would stay overnight in the platforms.
If the platforms and sidings are out of action then the units will normally stable overnight at West Kirby or Birkenhead North

Do you know if the works are to do with the new trains - platform extension/siding work?

I believe part of the work is to do with building walkways for crews to safely enter/exit the cabs in sidings but not sure what other works there are.
2 777s are due to be moved from Crewe to Kirkdale this Sunday afternoon.

Is move 777s planned to move up to Southport to be stabled to make room at Kirkdale depot?
From March 6 there is to be alterations to services on the Southport and Ormskirk services .

From the same date Kirkby services will go back to running every 15 mins.
