The MPV's do more than just apply sandite , they jet the track as well , this should remove the leaf mulch on the rail .
This year i dont seem to see the MPV around as much as in other years .
Dont forget was it two years back when the sandite caused multiple flashovers across the network and seriously dented the availability of the class 507/8 fleet at a time when all units were badly needed as it is this time of the year when the fleet can easily suffer numerous wheel flats .
508110 is back outside the depot in its usual siding, with 507012 unfortunately nowhere to be seen. Didn't notice the replaced 'M's but the bodywork wasn't in great condition.
Had my first ride on 508117 since overhaul tonight on the Kirkby line, and safe to say it's excellent. Probably the best 508 for me now alongside 508127 and 508115. It outclassed the other 508s I used today at various points, 508112 and 508137.
507021 is also still soldiering on without overhaul, although it can't be long before it's due in. It should be 508128 and possibly also 508110 in for their wheelset replacements just at the moment. I was thinking 508110 may have run out of mileage, hence its constant stabling at Birkenhead North.
Network rail have programmed a engineering possession today between Hall Road and Sandhills.
Not exactly ideal if your going to the Football today from that side of the Southport line .
i agree that it's not a good day to put engineering works on, what work is being done to the section taken over, i think it might be to do with all this new cable laying going on. I doubt that the mpv will run today between hall road and southport on the new de icing diagrams unless it will be diverted through the southport to manchester line.
507005 needs sorting out.
Usually when engineering works happen to disrupt the operation the operation of the MPV on either deicing or RHTT duty they forego that section of line .
In the event of really icy weather network rail may make a special effort to cover the Hall Road to southport by means of traversing the West Lancashire Line but under normal weather it would be uncovered.
3S56 loss of motor at Hamilton Square causing disruption tonight.
Any idea of the unit in question?

One of the MPVs but no idea which one
This unit failed on approach to Hamilton Square not quite making it over the pointwork into platform 2 or 3 , hence the bad disruption , the section of line from James street to Hamilton Square has always been a bad place for the MPV , this wont be the first MPV to come a cropper in this location and certaintly wont be the last , the climb from the River Bed seems to take it out of the MPV.
507012 parked up outside bhead depot, grafitti removed (although really quite evident where they have removed it.
