It maybe a case that most of the network requires at least some of the diagrams need six cars , not every set though .

Maybe 5/9 diagrams on the Southport line , 1 WK , 1 NB , 1CH and probably at least two of the diagrams on the ORM/KBY preferably not following diagrams , for normal summer sundays , when there is special events it could be changed to suit demand

It was the Mersey Tunnel 10K race finishing at New Brighton that was the event that meant the use of six cars .
A special Merseyrail service will operate following the World Cup match against Italy , during the Early hours of Sunday 15th June .

There will only be two extra trains running , one will be running to Hooton , the other one to Southport .

The Hooton service will depart Liverpool Central 0125 and will call ONLY at Birkenhead Central , Bebington , Bromborough and Hooton .

The Southport service will depart Liverpool Central 0130 and will call ONLY at Waterloo , Formby and Southport.

507020 is on the Ormskirk line this morning running as a 6 car with 508115 it looks very smart.
The International Mersey River Festival is on this weekend, so expect six cars on the Southport line on Saturday and presumably all routes on Sunday.

Is it definitely 508137 in for overhaul? This was overhauled back in August/September 2013 so shouldn't need the work doing again.

Yep, its in for C4 overhaul. Looks like it is 6-cars on the Southport line today.

EDIT: 6 car 507019/507024 failed at Formby earlier, was assisted to Kirkdale by following 6 car. 2 formations (I think) were split down at Southport to keep the service running.
507019 + 507024 were fixed and put back onto the Southport line later this afternoon, allowing 507015 and 507017, which had been split down, to reform as a six car and bring the service back to a full complement of six cars.

There were also two of the six Chester formations operating as six cars. Tonight's extra Chester should be 507012 + 507018 according to timings Realtime Trains.

Any ideas why 508137 is in again given it has already been recently overhauled? The next unit to be re-liveried is 508130 I think. (Either that or 507026.)
What I do not logically understand is why there was only two out of six , six car workings on the Chester service when there was a Chester race meeting going on.

Also they ran the three extra Chester services back to Liverpool Central as a passenger service instead of empty to cater for demand , the first one this time would have really been a pointless exercise as the racing didn't finish till 1830 normally it would have finished at about 1730.
Chester services there is two out of the three diagrams as a six car , the third diagram started life this morning as a six car but suffered technical difficulties but had to be replaced by a three car.
