what unit was invoved at blundellsands and crosby and was the fire brigade involved at all?
No Fire brigade involvement , for some reason plastic bags seem to love being sucked into the Resistor Fans on the units , they may need to look at the design of the air intake .

Services have now resumed to Kirkby and Ormskirk after track circuit failed route locking the up line from Bank hall to Sandhills.

Even leaves and discarded litter end up in the resistor fans. The wire meshing protecting the vent is the problem, the mesh needs to be finer so not to let small things in.

Currently looks like this:

Needs this:

Is the resistor fan the wire mesh box thing under the cab with the letters LPA on it?
when trains have just had an undercarriage overhaul the shaft is red, its located under the disabled passenger door

happy new year
James Street swap over today. Platform 1 back open as platform 3 closes.
was onboard 508126 today on the southport line, it sound really jumpy and rackertey. according to the chester cronicle and chester and chesire west council that the line between ellesmere port and helsby is in the future going to be operated by a PPM, the double track is to be split in two due to the freight services, it will use platform 2 at EP and a depot will be added along the route.
Will break my silence to advise the forum that it is seemingly expected (in the Network Rail Strategic Business Plan - London North Western), that Merseyrail will receive new rolling stock in the 3xx range (presumably a variant of the Electrostar family).

As a result of this, Network Rail will be facilitating the renewal of the obsolete mechanical train stops on Merseyrail with an alternative, compatible mechanism.

The infrastructure work to accommodate the new rolling stock will take place during Control Period 5.

Additionally, Network Rail may struggle to find the est. £17m to maintain Moorfields, and the £9m for Hamilton Square. Things like escalators, roofing and electrics are all nearing end of life.

In 2016, the Merseyrail DC power supplies (Shore Rd particularly) are expected to be replaced, (which may coincide with new, more powerful, rolling stock).

Merseyrail will also be billed for actual electricity usage on the new stock, rather than "estimated" usage. The trains will essentially have "meters" on them.
I would laugh if "3xx" ended up to be something like "313"'s!!!

I hope they don't put stupid traction motors that sound like a UFO is landing on the new trains. That will be unbearable on the wirral loop or moorfields northern line platforms!!!

How long do you reckon the 507/8's have to go then?
