The only long-term absentees are 507002 and 507012. There will always be one or two units out of service at any one time for routine overhauls and exams, of which 508111 I believe is one at present.

There isn't a significant shortage of stock currently as I haven't seen any short-formings for a while and they've managed the last four Saturdays at least with 46 of the fleet of 59 in traffic and several others lying spare in sidings.
At this rate, 507 032 might join the pattern of 507 002, 507 012 and 507 022!!

508 111 was in a bad way. Could it lose its vynals?
Latest available info for NFS 08/08/12 units:

508131 - Brakes
507026 - Fascia Brackets
507002 - Commissioning
507021 - Modifications
507012 - C3
508111 - C4
508103 - Diaphragm
508120 - Mileage
The year-long campaign advertising The Beatles Story concludes in October this year, so 508111 should carry its vinyls until at least then.

In line to be overhauled next are 507021, 508117 and 507032 in that order or similar. It seems likely some of the earlier refurbished units (508110, 508108, 508131, 508120) will be due for their own before long.
507021? Wow that's my fav unit. Btw. Merseyrail are recruiting more guards. How come considering that their positions are being reviewed with new trains?

Mainly because there are a number of internal driving vacancies, which only existing guards are eligible to apply for, which will create vacancies.

I highly suspect that the Merseyrail guards still face a bleak future, especially since ASLEF, the train drivers union, agreed to commit to work trains Driver Only (Passenger) in the future as part of a pay deal.

Maybe 5 more years... (although I would be interested to see whether any new equipment is installed at Liverpool Central/James Street after a refurb, especially with regard to CCTV Despatch monitors).
The liverpool bound signal at maghull developed a fault last night at 5:15pm and got stuck on red train drivers had to use the phone on the signal post to obtain permission from the signalman to proceed sounding their horns as they did so resulting i a variety of sounds some horns were mega loud and made people jump some were weak and others sounded more like whistles. Network rail were on site by 5:45 and walked down the track towards old roan where the fault must have been it was rectified by 7:15pm.
Due to a points failure at Leeds Street services on all Northern Lines are subject to severe delay .

There had been before this a problem with a train at moorfields exaccerbating the situation.

Edit : Service Restored at 1505
Through ticket to/from Chester Zoo+Merseyrail+Bus is amended as follows:

Passengers should no longer alight at Bache.
Passengers should continue onwards to Chester for the bus service to the Zoo.
From Twitter:

@Merseyrail Why don't you put bigger trains on when the weather is good, sardine express to Southport and back @merseyrail #majorfail
@LettySpoghetti Unfortunately we don't have any spare rolling stock available to strengthen trains from 3 to 6 coaches
@merseyrail is it all broken???
@LettySpoghetti No we don't have any rolling stock sitting anywhere. Any units in the depot at Sandhills are having maintenance work on them
@merseyrail you don't have spares in case of broken down trains sitting in the shed at Bankhall? X
(No response)
