Any idea where abouts the work is taking place?
Service presently suspended between Liverpool Central and Hunts Cross due to a track defect between Brunswick and Liverpool Central.
Theres to be a complete ban on consuming alcohol on merseyrail from the middle of the month
I think there's something similair on the welsh valley services
The ban will start on 18th january im sure that is what the announcements that merseyrail are presently doing say.
Anyone hear about the incident at Birkenhead North yesterday morning involving a train hitting some temp fencing used in the installation of the new footbridge. Do we know what train was involved?
It is said to have hit one of the train's doorsteps, so the damage, if any, was very minor. I wouldn't be surprised if it was straight back in service later that day.
Saw 508130 on Tuesday morning inside Birkenhead North depot, looking close to a return to service after its overhaul. Next in could well be 508141 as this has gone missing over the last few days.
For some reason that back platform has caused a few problems at Birkenhead North , a couple of weeks ago a service had to be cancelled after scaffolding was found to be leaning against a train in that platform , the train couldnt be moved until the scaffolding was secured back into place.
508139 made a rare appearance on the Northern Line this morning, forming the 08.25 Liverpool Central - Ormskirk with 507024. This formation has remained at Kirkdale so may be out for PM peak on the Ormskirk line.
Also saw what I believe to be 950001 in the siding near Bidston at 11.45ish.
508141 was in use today so isn't in for overhaul just yet. Looks like 508112 has now entered Birkenhead North for its overhaul, but 508130 wasn't out today.
More details of the upcoming train refresh have appeared in the Echo, suggesting £8.5 million is to be spent. This article also hints that an "extensive re-work" of the existing 507/8 fleet is still being considered instead of buying new stock:

A problem with an extensive re work of the trains is that you have them coming in to service in dribs and drabs .
Do we really want what will be to all intents and purposes 40/50/60 year old trains on the system , just like the Island line on the Isle of wight .
