Problems at Liverpool Central from late this morning. Operational incident according to the Merseyrail twitter feed.
Seems 5O19 got stuck in the reversing siding at Central for while leading to congestion around the Central area due to the long turn around time on the platform of the other Ormskirk services.
5O19 now removed, but appears the reversing siding is now not being used.
Kirkby services starting and terminating at Sandhills, other services meeting with delay.
Anyone have anymore information about what the problem is?
I believe the reversing siding is rarely used during service time.

Was there a problem out towards hunts cross, I guess its possible but it would have been reported had that been the case..

Is there anything on what caused the problem.

The reversing siding at Central never used to be used during service time, however since Maghull North opened in 2018, the Ormskirk trains have a turnaround time of 9 mins at central, therefore during the weekday they terminate on P1, pop into the siding for 5 mins, then back out again onto platform 2 to form the next service to Ormskirk.

Update on disruption today; they seem to be using the siding again for the Ormskirk trains but Kirkby services still terminating and starting back from Sandhills. Signalling issues?

From next Monday, the Ormskirk trains will go through to Hunts Cross, and it will be the Southport services that will use the reversing siding instead
Would anyone happen to know if they’ve sorted the on-board announcements to show it is a through train to OMS from HNX and vice versa?

In the past when they have had Ormskirk to Hunts Cross running, they have left the announcement from Ormskirk to say Liverpool Central (to avoid any confusion). Then at Sandhills, it changed to Hunts Cross.
Not sure what they plan to do this time, given it has been highlighted on the website/timetable that Ormskirk will continue onto Hunts Cross.

The same, theres no route code.
Why do Northern Line trains depart Southport 5 mins early on the timetable introduced yesterday then stand 5 mins at Hall Road with the crossing gates down to revert to previous timings for rest of journey to Central.
Is there a platform shortage at Southport?
Why not recover time at a station where road traffic and bus services wont be disrupted?

I agree with you on that one , holding road traffic back will eventually im sure result in complaints both to Network Rail and to a lesser extent Merseyrail.

It seems like running time is 50 minutes with the inbuilt recovery in both directions , in the southport direction the recovery time is between Birkdale and Southport.

Has the Southport line ever had a history of Exceptional Railhead Problems , like the Hooton line has had for years now.
It’s due to power upgrade work in that area, time would be lost.
So by leaving Southport early, they should be on time when full power is available
