The stations on the Liverpool - West Kirby line do seem to be closer to the road network than they are on the Liverpool - Chester / Ellesmere Port line .

Its like most of the stations on the South Liverpool Line are not accessible by rail replacement bus service and the bus will stop on the main road which probably makes for a decent end to end time on that line because the road is literally a straight line .
507009 is now in the new livery and has lost its name as a result. This unit was on the Southport line today along with 507002 which was completely full and leaving passengers behind on the 13.58 SOP-HNX. Passengers, including some with bicycles at Seaforth and one passenger in a wheelchair at Waterloo were all unable to board this service.

This really is totally unacceptable for a Sunday and the Southport line has been crying out for additional winter capacity on a Sunday for years. It's so easily avoided but nothing gets done.
The million dollar question to be answered here , is it Merseytravel who have to change the concession service plan to increase the frequency of a Sunday Daytime frequency in the winter.

With Merseytravel being a bit stumped for funding if you look at some of there funding for bus routes it could be a while before things change of a winter.
507029 has had its interior refurbished and looks very smart think it must be the first unit to be treated its on the Ormskirk line this morning as a 6 car with 508110. The seats are retrimmed litter bins installed panel work repainted and tidied up and the doors have been repainted and fitted with orange strips down the edges signage has also been upgraded including the cycle bay where the sign states that the bay is priority for cyclists and has to be given up if a cyclist needs to use it it also states that prams can use it if its not needed by a wheelchair but cyclists have first priority to it.

Just wanted to say many thanks for posting this, MX12. Would you be able to confirm which service it was working this morning, please? That way I can work out the first service worked by a refreshed unit.

I managed to catch 507029 on Ormskirk line evening peak workings; working with 507032, it formed the 15.55, 17.10 and 18.25 services from Central. The interior is very nice, with a much improved seat trim and all traces of that ugly purple removed. The carriage bulkheads are painted yellow as shown in the mock-up picture, with the inner vestibule partitions painted grey. The panelwork is all repainted, including removal of the purple sections, and the partitions between seats coloured dark grey. The overall appearance is a significant improvement, and they've chosen the colours and signage well. The bins are only about 35 years late, but it's great to see them finally fitted.

Thanks MX12. This means the first service it worked in refreshed condition was the 05.50 Kirkby - Liverpool Central.
According to literature Merseyrail will once again be running a rail replacement bus service between Moorfields and St Georges Hall during the first part of the Moorfields refurbishment programme.

507004 is the last unit in service still in the old livery, with 507008 receiving its new vinyls this week. 508104 is the only other unit still to retain its 2003 colours, but it has been out of service over the last few weeks for overhaul so I doubt it will see further service before re-livery.

004 was on the Ormskirk line today before working the 17.13 Central - Southport, so get it while you can!
