Remarkably, five of the seven Chester workings this afternoon were 507s, in the very week the 777s were reported to be taking over all workings on this line. The old guard comprised: 507031 (16.00 from Liverpool Central), 507030 (16.15), 507004 (17.00), 507015 (17.15) and 507014 (17.30).

Despite these subs, all five PM peak six cars on the Southport line appeared to run, the first time in quite a few days they have managed this.

507020 and 507021 are both out of service in the back sidings at Southport, whilst 507003 and 507016 were the only other inactive 507/8s today, both visible inside Birkenhead North shed.

508139 was on the .53 daytime departures from New Brighton and I believe it transferred to Kirkdale this evening where a desperately needed wash is in order. 508141 remains on the Southport line.

507003 has been in North depot now for nearly nine months, having an overhaul
Mark Harper, the Transport Secretary, travelled on the 1505 Liverpool Central to Headbolt Lane service today to officially open the new station

It has been spotted on test over the last few days, so its return to service appears to be imminent.

It’s certainly badly needed at the present time, as well as freeing up a space on shed
Just in case anyone has missed it, a preservation society has been set up with the aim of preserving a Class 507 unit, preferably 507001. It would be great to get as many interested people together as possible. More details at: https://www.class507.org.uk.

507031 was running on half power last night on the New Brighton line, so was only working as far as Birkenhead North. This was my first time riding a 507/8 as such, and despite the much reduced acceleration, it would still have left a 319 for dust!
508139/141 seem to have been withdrawn, their last passenger services were yesterday, one on Southports and the other on West Kirbys, both at Birkenhead North now ready for Monday
A friend is involved with the 507 Group. I'm not really interested in trains, but there's no arguing over their steadfast service to Merseyside for the last 45 years. Might get on board in the New Year.

I don't suppose you know their last workings by any chance please? I think 508141's last working was 2W48 1821 West Kirby to West Kirby on Wednesday 24/11/23, but struggling for 508139's last working as it appeared to finish at Southport on the Wednesday night going by RTT.

If these two units stayed on their circuits as planned, you were correct that 2W48 would’ve been the last working for 508141; the last working for 508139 would’ve been 2S48 1736 Hunts Cross to Southport. However there is always a risk they may have been swapped at some point on Wednesday
