The 16.43 Southport - Hunts Cross and 17.51 return was shamefully short-formed today despite the second set to form the six car (507031) not running late on its previous journey. 507002 took up the service alone. The Southport line passengers deserve a lot better: this service is regularly being short-formed at present. An operational change has to be implemented because the overcrowding is a joke.
Also, one of the Hooton line additional peak services failed to operate (16.33 Moorfields - Ellesmere Port). The unit would have been 507016, which ran empty to Rock Ferry via James Street around 17.50.
Does anybody know the stabling arrangements put in place this Christmas? seen a few ECS's to Kirkdale through at Hightown before the last Southport train.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
To be honest as it stands Merseyrail has not been affected to badly by the weather that is rattling around at the moment .
Two weather related a train had to stop to remove a childrens trampoline from track in the Hall Road area and a tree branch in the Bromborough Rake area.
It is always hard work to try and keep a service running when you have high winds when anything can be blown around quite easily.
Currently on 507032 on the Northern Line - very rough! Every bump can be felt and it seems to sway from side to side a lot when moving.
Happy New Year to all .
I have just been thinking how will Merseyrail refurbish Moorfields and Hamilton Square to the same standard as James Street , Lime St and Liverpool Central without causing extensive disruption.
Moorfields in particular will be a pain to plan for , does Merseyrail go for a full closure of the station or part closures of the station during the year , because of the size this place will probably take around a year to complete .
Birkenhead Hamilton Square will be easier , with a bus service running between all the Birkenhead Town Centre locations probably.
Buses will be replacing trains for the next 3 sundays between Maghull and Ormskirk presume Arriva Bootle depot will be running the replacement buses which will be pulsars and Enviro 400s will be interesting watching them navigate station road in Maghull as the road is very narrow especially on the corners Cumfybuses solos and Ace travels Enviro 200s struggle there at the best of times there on maghull circulars as oncoming cars just dont give way and add to that cars parking on the bus stops in the train station as well.

Next 4 Sunday's on the Ormskirk line are as follows:
Sunday 5th Jan Maghull - Ormskirk
Sunday 12th Jan Rice Lane - Ormskirk
Sunday 19th Jan Aintree - Ormskirk
Sunday 26th Jan Maghull - Ormskirk
Realised yesterday that one of the six car morning peak formations on the Southport line is omitted from the timetable and apparently has been for years. The formation works the 05.53 Southport - Hunts Cross and 07.06 return plus the 08.13 Southport - Hunts Cross and 09.21 return. 508103 and 508111 worked these services yesterday.
This means that there are six morning peak pairs on this route, not the five as advertised.

Sunday 12th should be interesting.
