Six cars throughout on the Southport line today and tomorrow as per standard practice when the Southport Flower Show is on. One of the pairs today included 508139, making a rare appearance on the Northern Line, and newly-named 508123.
If my memory did not play tricks with me for a short while one of the sets on the Southport line was a three yesterday until another three car became available to make it a six car .
Due to the amount of sets available one of the Ormskirk and one of the Chester sixes was a three car set to provide units on the Southport line also.
I don't think anybody begrudges the Southport service being totally six car workings whilst the Southport Flower Show is on , it brings a lot of tourism pounds to the economy of Southport.
The West Kirby PM six car has also been short-formed over the last two days, 507014 alone yesterday and 507005 alone today. All workings I've seen on the Southport line (except the peak time additional services) have been six cars yesterday and today, and rightly so.

The six car that was short formed on the morning Ormskirk is the one that would normally go across to the Wirral to work the afternoon West Kirby 6 car, so as you said both were 3 cars on the last two days.
The 06:20 service from Ormskirk to Liverpool was cancelled this morning due to a train fault wonder which unit it was?
Does anyone happen to know if 508123 has had/will have a naming ceremony, and if so, who was responsible for naming it? This would be really useful for my website records. TIA.

No-one awarded the contract yet.
The weather overnight has being playing games . Due to an obstruction on the track in the Meols area services presently not running between Bidston and West Kirby.
Services to and from Bidston have restarted, now that obstruction has been removed.
