At least 10 injured as bus crashes into wall at Mossley railway station

A bus packed with passengers has smashed into the wall of a railway station in Mossley.

The single-decker bus was driving up Stamford Road shortly after 12.30pm today when the driver lost control and ploughed into the stone wall.

The front of the bus, the 350 service to Ashton, was severely damaged after hitting the wall, which is part of Mossley station.

At least 10 people travelling on the bus were injured, an ambulance service spokeswoman said.

Five people have been taken to Tameside Hospital.

Three are said to have minor injuries, while the other two were put on a spinal board - although it is not known how serious their injuries are. Three people were taken to Royal Oldham Hospital with minor injuries.

Some of the walking wounded were treated by paramedics at a nearby doctor's surgery, according to witnesses. Fire fighters and ambulance workers led injured passengers to safety through an emergency exit at the back of the bus because the normal exit was unusable.

Alison Hobson, the landlady at the Britannia pub nearby, said: "I was just interviewing someone for a bar job position when we noticed all the commotion with police cars, fire and ambulances."

Greater Manchester Police have closed the top of Stamford Road, causing traffic jams.

All emergency services are still at the scene and the bus has not been moved.

well they have 34100 on loan guess they will bring 31952 back as well
Oh yeah! Something that I forgot to mention (sorry!) is that I saw 30803 in Bolton with an engineer driving it the other day near the depot (heading away from it)! It was some time this week, I can't remember the exact day (sorry again!). Is it on loan there, or was it just there for maintenance or something? 66889 is also now back at Wigan. :P

I'am personally hoping that 30803 meets the same fight as 30807 at Oldham, in fact get rid of the whole batch 30802/6. Seriously though its funny you should mention 30803 being sighted near to Bolton Depot. Everyday I am in Bury and you always see one or two from the batch lurking at Bury Interchange, without failure, if you don't see one you see the other. Today though and yesterday, I couldn't help but notice some regular sights were missing. Today it was Just the bendis and B7s And B9s doing 471s, along with the ususal citaros and god awful XDZs. Didn't see any of the 30802/6 batch, and its very unusual not to see them, they work 93, 137, 471,472,474 and sometimes 98s, but not seen a one. Making me think are they all At BN for maintanence as flickr shows although Based at Bury they are no strangers to Weston Street Depot.

Damien
