510 is a long standing route, are First trying to kill two birds with one stone and remove two routes with this 511 service?

One journey per hour on the 24 during the weekday off-peak will be replaced by the 23, running to the same times between Manchester and Thornham. Peak-times and Saturday service remains unchanged with the 24 running half-hourly.

Journeys on the 24 that will be taken over by the 23:
From Manchester: 0827 and every hour until 1327 then 1417 and 1517
From Rochdale: 0941 and every hour until 1441 then 1538 and 1643

(18/08/2014 07:46)M60lad Wrote: [ -> ]Be interesting what route 511 is going to actually take as at the moment 536 goes down Garstang Road in the same direction twice, once to cover Somerton Road and then it goes down again to cover Darcy Lever, I only found out this about a month ago when a friend of mine from Bolton Depot was on the route and I did a couple of trips with him and said that it was daft the way it was routed and we were wondering whether 511 would have to do this

The 511 will run along Garstang Road in both directions and then heads down Bury Road towards Empire Road/Withins Lane before running along 510 route.

What a stupid route thats going to lengthen the time it takes to get to Bolton, its a ridiculous change i don't know who is worst tfgm or first manchester on this ridiculous change

33838 and 33855 on the 42 this afternoon along with 33853 operating the 41
(19/08/2014 08:07)Dentonian Wrote: [ -> ]Its a commercial change, so the answer to that (in your opinion) should be obvious!

Wheather commercial or not, this is a bad route change, The majority of this route between Bury and the Bolton Boarder looses a bus an hour, speaking as someone who has lived in Ainsworth nearly 20 years and is old enough to remember the 509/510 combined 20 min frequency. This is tough to take, the only winner on this is Darcy Lever and please don't try to tell me that is more commercially viable than Bury to withins, because its rubbish. Most of the drivers I've spoken to although don't work for tfgm believe the 536 should have been withdrawn. Making the 511 half hourly, but of course doesn't work like that in tfgm's eyes. For the residents of Ainsworth 90 per cent of which are elderly and don't own cars its a bitter pill to swallow.
Spotted my first 14-plate Enviro400 (33838) out in service this morning on the 42 leaving Piccadilly Gardens this morning
The problem as I see it is that this is a forum. A place for Enthusiasts to share thier own observations and views on various things bus related. Yes from time to time views from certain members will be negative just like some observations will be incorrect or unaccuate, but that's how forums are. While some of what's said is fact, other stuff isn't. I've always personally taken what I've read on here and other forums with a pinch of salt but I don't jump on pulling members down for making such comments. It's just the way it is. We as enthusiasts arnt all as lucky as to work for (or have relatives that work for!)the companies or bodies being discussed, so it's often a case of Chinese whispers where news is often forwarded several times, and has bits added on and taken off before being posted.

At the end of the day we are all adults, not kids in a playground and it's about time these dogsbodies that jump on people for airing their views (whether right or wrong) should think about the wording of their posts before pressing the post button, as replies I've read recently have been worded quite strongly and in my opinion it amounts to bullying, plain and simple. And as what was said on the Network Warrinton thread, certain members of the group should leave the moderating to the moderators and stop preaching about the companies/bodies they work for. We all have our own views on them!

It's a double edged sword James. Your comments to the group would be missed but without the members you say are bringing threads down, their wouldn't be a forum at all!

Rant over and sorry if I've upset the mods.
(21/08/2014 15:35)Dentonian Wrote: [ -> ]I apologise for the use of capitals, as it is tantermount to shouting. This was because I was exasperated by 37554BY's apparent refusal to take on board what I said about the current 510 & 536 being commercial services during the day (ie. at the times the 511 will replace the 510). I was particularly angry at the comment "of course, it doesn't work like than in tfgm(sic)'s eyes". It is ironic that we have been asked not to criticise Operators, but here we had a case of a Local Authority being criticised/blamed for a decision made by an Operator.
As such, I deny the charge of arrogant and patronising, and if this forum allows members under 18, and observes the rules that most discussion forums set down, then the use of the word d**k in this context, would result in an immediate barring, anyway.
Guy's, as an enthusiast living in the East Midlands, I have no connection with, or ever worked in the transport industry but, I have a particular interest in First Manchester. I rely on input from all of you resident in the Manchester area to provide useful information. I should hate that anybody drops out of which I think is a fantastic forum. I know at times some of the grammar used can be questionable, I'm "old School" now being in my early sixties, but if all took time to read & understand the comments being made in the threads I'm sure a happier situation can prevail. Pete.
Yes it will be a shame to see people leave this forum. I have little insider knowledge but I always word my comments so that I can voice my opinion yet let people know that it uninformed. The wording and interpreting of posts looks like it could be a problem throughout the internet.
