Think it may be a throwback to the 341 which used to run City Centre - Bootle - Black Bull - Maghull.
341 used to be Hornby Road, Stanley Road though and not Walton Church. (Ribble one went that way anyway).
It was introduced to serve some industrial estate or business park around Bootle, and fits in with the shift finishing times of 930pm, there was numerous requests back then for a bus to serve Maghull as there was no 300. There was talk of withdrawing it a few years back but it survived following some surveys!
Merseytravel still has some quirky services , like the Wirral 129 , which technically has only had two operators since deregulation Crosville/RedRider/First and Ace Travel.

I mark Crosville/RedRider/First as the same operator it just moved within the company to suit demands of the depot .
319 timetable now on Merseytravel's website - some Saturday journeys have been retained compared to the version on SLT's site:

http://www.merseytravel.gov.uk/pdf/tt_30...02012).pdf
The version on the SLT website has been updated - there will actually a slightly improved provision between Rainford and St Helens (up to 6/7 journeys instead of 5), with the number of journeys to/from Ormskirk reduced by one (5 to 4 round trips). The Bickerstaffe diversion will also operate on Saturdays.
Whats this 597 Newton LE Willows - Leigh thats started by Maytree?!
I saw that myself before and was wondering!

Seems to be commercial between Newton-le-Willows and Leigh Sports village than supported by TfGM and Wigan Council between there and Leigh Infirmary. Odd though that is starts in Merseyside commercially though unless a lot of people from Newton-le-Willows get sent to Leigh Hospital!

Interesting too most of the August contract changes still haven't got new timetables up on the website even though the start next weekend!
The guys been on holiday for 2 weeks!
I was joking to someone the other day it had to either be the timetable person or website person that was off! Seems it was correct! lol
