They tried going through Ravenhead with the 33A back in 2006. Main problem was it missed out the hospital (going via The Score) but if it were to run down Sherdley Road then both Hospital and Ravenhead could be served with same route.
Is it not possible Merseytravel might just introduce a 'normal' Merseytravel contract as a St Helens Ciruclar to cover the area in some way?

Did any such circular exist prior to the Smart services starting?
What will happen to the buses then I wonder? Do Selwyns own them or is it Merseytravel who bought them?
As I believe, Merseytravel own the buses and depot (or at least they lease the depot!) - the contract Selwyns have covers operating the depot and buses.

I know they did, but not having one 33, say every 30 minutes, going via the Hospital would hardly be catastrophic with the 32/A and 35/A running past there still.

I'd also have suspected that passengers favouring the free Eco services would have been more of a reason for them pulling out of running via Ravenhead as opposed to not running past the hospital though.

As I say, particularly with the new Tesco now in place, I do think that running via both Tesco and Ravenhead would now be a viable option with no free service in place. There's greater reach toward the Sutton Manor end of the route with that kind of link coming from the likes of a 33 than the Eco services (which require travel to the town centre first) too.

Running from the top of the Linkway down to Tesco and the retail park would mean the Hospital is served on all journeys but there's also significant potential for the service to get stuck in heavy traffic on the Linkway in doing so.
Another link probably lost is the link between St Helens and Asda and Morrisons unless a current service does the route

Hattons 60 serves Asda inbound and 135 serves Morrisons - the 60 possibly could be re-routed outbound but the 135 only runs 5 journeys per day at an irregular frequency.

How long before we have no night buses at all?
