Stagecoach will no longer operate the 472 and provide 1 journey each hour each way jointly Monday to Friday with Arriva on the 471 this service is every 30 mins. On Saturdays it will be hourly with no Arriva Participation on the route.
There seems to be a bit of confusion about the revised timetable from next week, looks a bit of a mess..
Merseytravel are quoting;
Stagecoach services are reduced. Subsequently the Monday to Friday daytime 471 service is reduced to every 30 mins in both directions - with Arriva operating one half of the service. The 472 remains at a 20 minute frequency. No journeys travel onward from Heswall to Barnston. Times are changed. On Saturdays from Liverpool the 472 is reduced to hourly while the 471 remains every 20 mins. From Heswall the 471 is reduced to hourly while the 472 remains every 20 mins. Times are changed. Sundays are unchanged.
Stagecoach meanwhile are quoting;
Monday to Saturday, Arriva will operate the 472 journeys in both directions, to a slightly revised timetable, but still with buses operating every 20 minutes.
Service 471 will have a new Monday to Friday timetable, with a half-hourly service provided jointly between Arriva and Stagecoach. On Saturdays, Stagecoach will provide the 471 daytime journeys on an hourly basis with Arriva operating evening journeys. The Sunday and Bank Holiday timetables will remain unchanged.
Arriva aren’t quoting anything..
I’m sure the residents of Pensby/Irby/Heswall will be made up at the sight of a of rammed shagged out 30 seat Cadet turning up instead of a leather seated WiFi/USB fitted modern double decker..

So it is not just me that cant understand who is doing what next week.
Think some clarification is necessary.

Basically, every 20mins on a 472 and every half an hour on the 471, which I personally feel that during the main body of the day might actually be a fair balance.
Perhaps they should show as 2 separate timetables for easy reading.
Stagecoach seem to be having a horrid time today with numerous 471/2 cancelled , the afternoon / early evening service 41/42 doesnt look any better and 1 journey on the service 1 in early evening cancelled.
What got me is why it has taken so long for Stagecoach to realise the present timetables where unworkable.

We are all aware of the national shortage of professional drivers currently and there doesn't seem to be any prospect of this being resolved in the near future.
I read recently that in certain parts of the country bus drivers are leaving in droves to take up employment as delivery drivers and even shelf stackers for the big supermarkets where the pay and conditions are considerably better.
The only long-term solution is to increase pay for bus workers - as Stagecoach has just done in many subsidiaries - but if one company such as Arriva or Tescos continues to offer better rates and conditions, the problem of recruitment and retention will persist indefinitely.

Things should ease on Monday with the service reductions. Maybe vehicles such as the Tridents may have to be retained (under some sort of age dispensation) as services will no doubt get busier more deckers may be required

Chester has 1 double decker bus off road, (19143), there hasn’t been a bus on the 1450 1 which gets all the Blacon high school kids on Monday - Friday, they have had the other 2 on 2’s and 16’s
Sorry if this is a dumb question but are the Open Top ALX400's retiring now?
