Whilst likely a Preston vehicle, just seen a MX55*** Trident heading into Liverpool, looked to be heading for the Birkenhead tunnel so could be for Rock Ferry depot, repaint perhaps?

It will be because Wirral's 38 is being extended to Heswall and will continue on to Chester from Heswall...
Blimey thats going to be one massive route:
Bromborough - New Ferry - Birkenhead - Bidston - Moreton - Hoylake - West Kirby - Frankby - Irby - Heswall - Neston - Chester

Surely that wont happen??

Possibly, it says on the Stagecoach website that the X22 has been timed to connect with service 38 at Heswall
If you read what Stagecoach put out on there website it says alternate services will be extended not all services , so what will probably happen is the 38 will operate Bromborough Retail Park - West Kirby and New Ferry - Heswall , but its a case of now waiting for Merseytravel and Stagecoach to release the timetable for public consumption now .
I presumed the X22 was Chester depot given the service starts and finishes there.

Especially if you look at the timetable and there is two morning and one evening direct services not even calling at Neston which would otherwise have been empty workings .
I wonder whether its only the services timetables which connect .
The X22 and service 38 alterations have come at a good time considering The Open this year at Hoylake , during that time you could guarantee a double decker to be on both services .

If thats the case then it probably would have been better to renumber one of the services. Its going to be confusing for passengers if theres a 38 that runs between New Ferry & Heswall each hour and another 38 that runs from Bromborough - West Kirby each hour.

Lets just wait for the timetable to be published first and then we can digest whats going on.

You wouldn't get a decker around the X22 route unless it's a low-bridge vehicle due to the low bridge in Neston, although I agree decker workings on the 38 may be plausible, thinking back to the last one in 2006, First still employed their usual Optare Delta's on the 38 at the time.
