Seeing as some of the planned orders for Chorley & Rock Ferry have been posted in their respective threads, Gillmoss *should* be getting Enviro300's 27287-27299

Strong rumours that Gillmoss are to get Chorleys 59 plate Scania Enviro400s for the 20/21 road.

As good (and indeed vital) as this would be, I just can't see it happening. According to a recent fleet list, there are 22 of the 59 plate Scania Enviro400s at Chorley, which wouldn't be enough to cover the 20/21 PVR which I calculate is 29 or 30.

Realistically, this being Stagecoach Merseyside, if any of these Scanias do come to Gillmoss, it will just be a replacement for the current token fleet of Tridents. Still, we live in hope these rumours are true!
Maybe it could be a part conversion to double decks, with half the PVR still Enviro300s which would also mean the Tridents could be replaced too.
Isn't the 20/1 mainly city running i thought Stagecoach didn't want scania doubles on city work?

I really can't see the Scanias being used on local city services, anywhere. Also, if the 20/21 is ever to be converted to double-deckers I can see a reduction in the PVR. On certain occasions, it is not unusual to see three or even four buses in a line mid-route.
Over the last few years, most of the new diesel double deckers seem to have been the Scania versions. There must be some examples of the Scanias running on city routes at least somewhat similar to the 20/21. What about the 88 in Sheffield - a cross-city route but still stop-start in nature. Given the length of the 20/21 as well (over an hour each way), I don't think the Scanias would be too bad a fit - and certainly a massive improvement on the integral Enviro300s which are wholly unsuitable.
88 is rather hilly from what I recall, caused no end of gearbox problems on the MANs previously used.

Expect Preston to get more of the Scanias and send their Enviro400s over to Gillmoss...that was the original plan anyway.

I spend a fair amount of time in Sheffield and from what I can tell there aren't any routes that don't have to tackle some steep climbs. In days gone by, SYPTE always bought buses with big, powerful engines and I believe that practice continues now with its successors (First and Stagecoach). Apart from Everton Brow, the 20/21 routes run on flat and level roads.

If the Enviro300s are now considered unsuitable for most GM routes what were they thinking of when the 55/06 Darts were ordered?

The Darts were never supposed to be for Gm originally, they were diverted to Gm as there was so many ancient buses to be replaced after the takeover. As well as that that there was a few newer buses that were left in bits and others that badly needed some work. However, a lot of those darts were around a bit too long considering the services as they weren't moved on until the man Enviro300's arrived 4 years later.
