The half hourly Rochdale to Blackburn/Clitheroe service is booked for a 150/153. Yesterday one diagram was short formed whist 3 153 were noted on Newton Heath shed.

I think Class 331/1 will be used for Manchester Airport to Blackpool North service and class 331/0 will be used in Yorkshire to replace class 321 and class 322. And also class 331/0 will replace class 323.

West Yorkshire will get 3 car sets only to indirectly replace the 321s and 322s, with peak time doubling up. The North West will get a mix of 3 and 4 car sets. Manchester Airport to Blackpool is supposed to be the first route to get 331s so possibly initially the route will get whichever 331s are available first, opposed to what it will get long term.
Will 331s be allocated to any particular route as they all will be based at Allerton?

- North TPE Airport services approach Piccadilly from the west
- Liverpool to Scarborough diverted via Victoria
- Piccadilly to Airport stopper scrapped with additional calls on other Airport services.
- Southport to Airport service scrapped - remaining Southport/Wigan to Manchester services now extension of existing Alderley Edge to Manchester service.

Changes so far requiring additional paths:
- Additional Buxton service
- Peak time Piccadilly to Huddersfield stopper

Changes still set to happen requiring additional paths:
- All day Chester to Manchester Airport service, rather than at off-peak times only.

Changes 'under review':
- Hourly Manchester Airport to Cumbria via Wigan service - shouldn't require additional path as service previously ran.
- Hourly Manchester Airport to Bradford/Leeds service.
(Northern Connect is supposed to be under review but TfN haven't confirmed exactly which routes.)

Changes which seem to have been cancelled:
- Extra hourly Greenbank to Manchester
- Extra hourly Macc to Manchester
- Extra hourly Hazel Grove to Manchester

Network Rail claimed North TPE changes would create 5 extra paths (due to Liverpool to Scarborough crossing all the lines at Piccadilly.) Northern changes should have created an additional 2 so there should be enough for all the enhancements but now it seems Network Rail are backtracking on the 5 from the North TPE changes.

I believe the extra greenbank - Manchester is going to be replaced by a Chester - Altrincham extra. The lack of paths prohibiting it going further. Shame the south facing bay platforms at stockport have been filled as the pinch point is north of stockport.

Edit: not till 2019.

331s have to be used on Manchester Airport to Blackpool due to them being the only EMU to meet 'Northern Connect' standards. 319s can't be used on Stoke or Hadfield services due to their acceleration not being good enough so if the 323s leave as expected then 331s will have to run those services. 331s were supposed to be the traction for Macclesfield to Blackpool with 319s on the Hazel Grove shuttle but now it's supposed to be Hazel Grove to Blackpool with no extra service to Macclesfield so I don't know what'll happen there.

Which creates a ticketing issue. While through tickets are available from Mid-Cheshire stations to Metrolink stops they are more expensive than tickets to Manchester via Stockport and there's no tickets allowing you to go one way and return the other. Plus there's the issue of southbound connections with Metrolink not running to a strict timetable and terminating late running services at Timperley.
769456 has moved from Brush, Loughdorough to the GCR for testing.

Also new report from Transport Focus stating the obvious that Northern passengers are fed up of the RMT strike action and have no issues with drivers taking over door duties if it means staff spending more time with passengers: http://d3cez36w5wymxj.cloudfront.net/wp-...ispute.pdf
The two carriages of 195002 were due to arrive at Edge Hill today. I noted one on a low loader on Hillfoot Road opposite the Asda at about 1115.
