Services cancelled up until the 21:47 out of Lime Street according to Northern's Journey Check site
There also appears to be numerous cancellations on other lines. Not a very good Christmas present for Northern's passengers today. Is there any particular why they are so short of staff?

Think it's because guards don't have to work Sundays and a lot have chosen not to work today.
Surely something should have been done given the fact that quite possibly more people will be travelling today compared to a normal Sunday, whether they be shopping or going home for the holiday. Possibly excusable on a normal Sunday but not good today though.
16:25 Liverpool - Wigan
17:13 Wigan - Liverpool

Are definitely running according to my local station

EDIT: the said Trains are going none stop between Liverpool and Huyton
18:25 Liverpool - Wigan
19:13 Wigan - Liverpool

Also showing as running.

There are now additional cancellations due to staff shortages on the Clitheroe, Mid-Cheshire, Southport and Marple routes.
Just noticed a very strange quirk in the calling patterns of the replacement buses today. The services from Preston are calling at Edge Hill but the outward services aren't as well as the shorter Liverpool - Wigan journeys. Quite remarkable considering Edge Hill is closed today as it is every Sunday.
Ex GWR 150102, 150122 and 150124 have arrived here, at least the first 2 are already in use.
158870 and 158871 are the first two 158s to transfer from ScotRail
158782/86/89 and 158867-71 were allocated to Northern many years ago but "borrowed" by Scotrail and never returned. Expect to see the rest of this batch with Northern soon.
