Real problems on the Mid Cheshire line today. Who knew a 2 car 142 would struggle when both the Cheshire Show and cricket world cup are on?

Unlike Merseyrail, Northern seems incapable of reacting to increased demand when special events occur on their network. Is it poor management or a lack of spare rolling stock?
Merseytravels form of crowd control is missing out half the stops and close the city centre stations reducing people's travel opportunities. It's a bit harder to do that when you have a minimum service requirement.

Its a case unlike Merseyrail of not robbing peter to pay paul.

When Merseyrail need to increase the service on some lines , they have a pecking order of what to do , pull services of some of the lesser used services , ie Ellesmere Port , either replacing with a bus service or a rail shuttle , something like that could easily be done with Northern , but the problem is at Northern , you are dealing with at least 5 different PTA areas each with there own agenda , even though they come under the umbrella of Rail North.

Northern did still run an ECS from Chester to Newton Heath yesterday morning instead of keeping the extra 150 out in service to strengthen "off-peak" services.

Northern also do rob Peter to pay Paul daily so they short form rather than cancel services.
