Most of us did expect the exact date to be once the 10B timetable is revised on the 11th January, but it makes no sense to have brand new and serviceable buses sitting in the depot when the extra capacity they offer is needed now.
With the 10/10A examples, on Sundays it would certainly make sense to use them on the 89, and if the two spares on weekdays are going to be used, then the 89 is probably the best place for them. I'm not sure there are too many other routes from St Helens in need of deckers.
I assume they can fit under Gateacre bridge then!l

Deckers have operated the 89 before now as metrobuses/olympians and atlanteans have all been on there and these Enviro400 are lower in height at only being 13ft10.

Am I right in thinking the 79D fits under there?

Don't think it goes that way, does it?
I've had the London Geminis on the 89 before and they have coped well with the low bridges.
I remember in Merseybus and Lancashire Travel days Double deckers being used on the 89/89A

Yes, indeed. In the old black and white days full height Leyland PD2s and AECs were the regular vehicles for the 89s. As far as I know the route hasn't changed much since then, but I may be wrong.
2417 broke down on Penny Lane in Haydock
Can anybody confirm which two Enviro400s are entering service tomorrow please?
4595 and 4596 are the two taxed according to the DVLA vehicle enquiry site so expect it to be those.
