The park and ride has actually been going since at least 1985. And, given that there weren't any low-floor vehicles (which the contract now strictly specifies) in those days, it's probably no surprise that Atlanteans were used
Does anyone know when the palatines are finishing.
Also I can think of some of the school runs Southport garage does:
692 Savio Salestian College to Kirkdale Station
705 Birkdale High School (starting I think at Liverpool Rd/Waterloo Road) to Lord Street
712 Christ the King R.C. High School to Fairhaven Road
713 Greenbank High School to Norwood Road/Hereford Road
713(a?) Greenbank High School to Haigh Ave(?) not sure on this one
722 Maricourt School (Maghull)-Maghull High School to Shevington's Lane/Highfield
727 Maghull High School to Waddicar Church
761 King George V College to Pinfold Lane
762 Stanley High School to Kew Town Lane
764 King George V College to Freshfield
I stand to be corrected on this, also all vehicles with Hanover displays can show the correct destinations for these services although I believe some displays are programmed wrong and the palatines have displays for all except Kirkdale Station and have 'Meols Cop'
for the 713 services although only a few drivers use these upper blinds.

Also, Arriva do the late 720 (Maghull High School > Black Bull Public House) service. I'm under the impression that Arriva and PeoplesBus have exchanged some school services so that each company can run their parts more efficiently because PeoplesBus are down to do the 720, despite Arriva running it. I've seen Arriva running it many times and the bus that goes onto it normally rests on Westway in Maghull beforehand.
The Park and Ride first started in the 1980s using Leyland National and National2s from the MPTE. For a brief period in the mid 80s Ribble operated it using 15xx Leyland Atlanteans. Throughout the MTL era Atlantean and Olympians were frequently used at weekends and school holidays before the low floor revolution.

The 692 and 722 are operated by the same vehicle most days as are the 705 and 761,762 and the 764

Leyland Nationals, now your talking. They were good buses. 6111 was obviously my favourite. :-)
Thanks for the replies regarding the schools, gents. Much appreciated.
When are the tax discs up on the remaining Olympians, or will they still be running into April?
Quite possibly because events in Birkenhead and Wrexham need to be completed to trigger a switch about.
Also, don't forget that re-taxing the vehicles is a minor issue; unused tax can be reclaimed.
