Out of interest, how do you know which vehicle you are to take?
Is that also put up many days in advance so you can write it down?

Drivers find out what vehicle is allocated to their duty at the depot when they start their shift

Vehicles are allocated on the day rather than in advance
Veichles will get allocated at the end of the night once there all parked up so that they are not rushing around to allocate them early in the morning.

It's a strange question I know but, as Bootle and most other depots are open air, in intense cold weather are the buses started up prior to their early morning start or is it simply a case of cross your fingers and pray?
St helens shunters tend to know which ones may be problematic so will tend to start those earlier on but its not easy with the pulsars,solos/sr and Enviro400 as they have a 5 minute cut off saftey feature fitted so the engine will cut off after 5 mins if the accelerator isnt pressed within the time frame
Over at First Manchester they use a slightly different system now in that when the drivers book on at the start their shift they get a print out of that days duty they've got including what time their breaks are and times they take their buses off.

As for vehicle allocation at First Manchester there's usually a list up on the wall in Traffic Office at each depot listing that days duties and what vehicles are allocated to that duty although dut to breakdowns and inspections this will ultimately change sometimes during the day so drivers might end up going out for their duty and end up driving a vehicle they haven't been allocated.

Sorry for going off-topic btw
Not sure if it's been reported already but 3027 and 4413 are now fitted with WiFi
4101 has returned here again, seen it earlier on 52.
It never left, Just been long term VOR
Could have sworn I seen a photo of it back at Winsford quite recently.
