Can a route be put in serivce before the specified contract date begins ??

No - the service can only run from the date which the company has specified in the relevant VOSA registration.

However, I think that if they run it as a free service before the start date, it's allowed. As far as I know, free bus services don't have to be registered with VOSA.

I think this is correct (though I can depend on the circumstances I think) as for example the Asda Shopper bus operated by HTL Buses isn't registered on VOSA as it is a free service.

But if it is a commercial service it shouldn't run before the date given to vosa ??

This will explain why I spotted a Rossendale Olympian on Mottram road in Stalybridge a couple of weeks back with about 10 passengers on board [they must have been drivers!].

They seem a bit desperate for work if their going for school tenders way out of their operating area. I can see why they would go for schools in Oldham but Tameside??

Apparently they are ex stotts contracts. And heck schools pay a lot... def worth the traveling
