Wonder whether it was unit shortage or staff shortage .
Well that would probably be a Manchester Victoria train crew working.
The 22:20 LIV - MCV was also cancelled. Both down to no crew to work the service... Not good for residents of Eccles or Patricroft!

The booking office should be open until the last train has departed and the help point will work too. Were you on the train? Did it miss out any other stations? Seems very weird to just miss one.

Yes, really. I would suspect it would be much more likely a case of staff shortages.

Staff shortage of the conductor variety.
Three buses were ordered, plus the 2304 to Preston was held for a few mins.

I was not on that Train but a Forum Member was waiting for it at Thatto Heath (One of the Stations it decided to go right past)
I have read elsewhere that the winning bid for the next Northern franchise is to be announced a week on Friday (December 4th)
Northern (as well as Virgin and TPX) have been affected by a person being hit by a train between Preston & Wigan this afternoon. When I was coming back the 1550 (1530 from Preston) to South Parkway was cancelled and people heading southbound were advised to go to Lime Street on the stopping service and get connections from there.

Rumours are circulating that Govia's bid was substandard and rejected, while Abellio's numbers didn't add up in their train plan meaning Arriva will be the likely winners.
With TPE all bids apparently were good enough and First are rumoured to be favourites.
I'd better start learning German then!
