The alterations to platform 6 is a few years off yet I believe. Platforms 1-5 are to be resurfaced.

You are referring to Lime Street! Works are possibly in connection with the planned platform alterations, Not sure of the details but I understand that part of the plan is to straighten Platform 6.

The Immingham to Preston Docks bitumen train is diverted during the closure period via Manchester Victoria, Chat Moss and Golbourne Junction.

I heard that the old parcels platform (between 6/7) is to get brought back into use in preraration for future services enhancements (TPE/Virgin) Any truth in this ??
I do think that may be a pipe dream as there would have to be some engineering work required due to the closeness of the pillars to the edge of the old parcels platform , also some form of access that isnt blocked by a train in platform 7 would also be required .
It has been looked at I believe, not sure whether it's included in the remodelling.

That would certainly give some extra capacity - but I would guess it would be a challenge to meet current engineering standards.
Out of curiosity, how long has it been since the middle tracks inbetween the platforms have been used, got no memories of them in use

Has to be a good while , getting rid of the centre roads and realigning the platforms could easily given you at least another 2 platforms on the side of the station where the present platform 1 to 6 is .
Very true, where the middle tracks used mainly for overnight stabling?
