In other news, I have read in the latest RAIL magazine that the 6 156's going to TPE will now be transferred in May, not the Autumn as originally planned. This means that Northern's stock shortage could be made even worse if there are any further delays to the electrification programme.
The Cumbrian coast line is to have at least 1 top/tail loco hauled set to release some 156s
Any further delays to electrification will also put back any plans for a direct Manchester - Burnley service via the Todmorden Curve.
I think the diagram they plan to use it on , uses more than one set .
Those sets could then be used to strengthen other services elsewhere .
This can not be more than a stopgap measure really as loco hauled sets will in the long term cost more .
Splendid! Hope the testing goes well!

During the Farnworth Tunnel Closure Kirkby (Merseyside) will lose direct services to Manchester and they will be redirected to Bolton and that will be the only Link between Wigan-Bolton

Northern Rail has confirmed that pending a successful test of the line tonight and ORR final approval, it is planning run its first electric Class 319 services next week, from Liverpool to Manchester Airport.
Just for your info these are the confirmed runs that will be worked by 319 electric trains until the May timetable change, which will then see further 319's introduced.
0616,0716,0916,1215,1416,1516,1713,1814 Liverpool-Man Airport and 0735,0840,1040,1340,1540,1640,1840,1940 Man Airport-Liverpool.
So at last we get to see the refurbished 319's in passenger service.
Fantastic update :-) finally something decent for the northern hub
Thats excellent news finally something to show for the electrification work being undertaken.
