According to a report on Rail Forums it’s all over as buses now back at the depot!
Official statement in Liverpool Echo, ‘Halton has ceased trading. Arriva to take over some services from tomorrow’.
Apparently the Liverpool Echo are jumping the gun and that some Halton Buses are still out in service

It looks very well planned on Arriva's part ... !
Interesting to note that there is nothing as of yet on Merseytravel's website about Halton's demise.
I tweeted Merseytravel circa 11:30 this morning, and they said they were aware of the situation at Halton Transport, but that they had heard nothing else. In fairness to Merseytravel, I think they were probably getting a lot of their information from forums like this, hence a reluctance to say anything official then.
Service 61 will run between Broadgreen and Halton Hospitals still providing a link into Liverpool and Knowsley despite what was posted on the website last night and the Liverpool Echo
