I am looking to go to Liverpool in a couple of weeks. While there are Advance Singles to and from East Didsbury, it would prove cheaper to split the tickets into Advance Singles EDY - MAN and MAN - LIV in both directions. However, for the risk of an operational problem causing for example the Liverpool-bound train only to start from Piccadilly, this saving does not seem worth the risk.

I understand from the TrainSplit website that if you travel to your intended itinerary and something goes wrong, even on split tickets, you can get your tickets endorsed for the next available service. You should be fine but I would take a printed copy of your confirmation e-mail or have it ready on your phone in case anything goes wrong - and it often does on this route, let's face it.

I've used split ticketing a few times and have only encountered disruption once. Last year, I was travelling from Liverpool to London using the Avanti service to Stafford, with a split onto an LNWR service from there to London. There were delays and the LNWR service ended up being cancelled. I showed the train manager my itinerary and she was happy to allow me to stay on the Pendolino into London.

Thanks, I have decided to take a chance. I guess Northern have factored in competition at the Liverpool end from EMR & TPE and at the East Didsbury end from Metrolink, but not looked at this when setting the through fare.
South Lakes Travel providing a RRB from Stoke to Manchester today due to a driver shortage. Unusual for a Cumbria operator to be seen running a RRB in Staffordshire and South Cheshire.
Lots of cancellations and short notice changes today due to driver shortages.

Including the usual casualty, the Dalesrail Preston - Hellifield (although probably just as well looking at the weather, can't imagine there being too many takers for that today).
323243 was transferred yesterday to Longsight.

It's in longsight for a c4 exam, the ones apart from 211 that got done in doncaster are staying with WMT and the ones going to longsight are being transferred to northern next year.

Ah cheers for that do you know exactly which ones are eventually due at Northern?

A search on Flickr reveals 323201, 204, 214, 216 and 222 have all had C4 Overhauls at Doncaster in the last 12 months so I guess these are staying with WMT.

323202/203/205-213/217-219/241-243 transfer to Northern,
323201/204/214-216/220-222/240 have no lease beyond WMT.
Wonder if the remaining 9 will transfer when the Wigan north western line to lostock is electrified.
