Liverpool to Manchester via St Helens timetable no longer includes TPE fast services
With operators changing services at short notice at present it's not surprising they aren't including other operator's services in their timetables.
Apparently the 769s won't be in service at the December timetable change. Possibly that means they'll be short formations in December.
Northern diagrams are on the ukmodernemu group, if anyone feels inclined to compare the short formed services to what Northern admit to.

I wonder how many units short Northern are, given that the 142s have been withdrawn but the 769s not yet entered service?

Depends how you define 'short'. Northern aren't running a full service on some routes, which they are claiming is down to driver shortages, so ideally on those routes the service before or after the missing service should have extra capacity. However, that isn't happening in some cases.
It should also be noted some services/extensions which should have been added in at the December 2017 or December 2019 timetable changes have not been. For instance, additional Greenbank to Manchester services, additional Macclesfield to Manchester services, a new Liverpool to Bradford service, extension of 2 Victoria services to Manchester Airport. With the exception of the 769s Northern have received the additional units they need for those services, so it's unlikely they don't have enough trains to run everything but it may be some services have fewer seats than is ideal.
I’ve noticed new platform validators pop up at Northern stations across Merseyside, though seemingly these are only being used to validate season tickets held on their own smart card at present.

They should be at every station in the country by the end of the year, as part of flexible season ticket roll out.

It’s a good idea, shame the barriers at LPY still won’t accept my Northern smartcard!
Now that a mass COVID vaccination centre has just opened in Manchester, Northern are responding by axing 60% of Manchester area services from next Monday
