Newcastle - Edinburgh is there a market for more trains between these points considering that Virgin Trains East Coast and Cross-Country already operate on this route , isn't another operator just abstracting revenue streams from them , then you have the potential for more open access operators as well , alongside freight companies , this line then looks a bit congested .
Think the idea maybe more of through journey opportunities although it is a bit of a round the houses route from Liverpool.
I would have thought one of the Manchester Airport jobs would have been better suited to Edinburgh via Newcastle . TPX know what there doing , don't they ?

Manchester Airport will have a service to Newcastle (via York) and Edinburgh (via Preston.) Edinburgh is actually west of Manchester so going via York is an indirect route.

If you put it like that Liverpool is even further west than Manchester Airport , its near enough about as west as you could probably go other than Blackpool.
A problem in the Manchester Victoria area saw the 1612 to Newcastle diverted via Manchester Piccadilly tonight. In the opposite direction the PIS showed departures for Liverpool at 1637 (from Norwich) 1639 (from Newcastle) and 1655 (from Manchester Airport).
