This photo, (by Daniel Graham), still shows the service showing 'Cassop' two weeks after the extension.

Did anybody know about this change?

Was a very short notice change.

Traffic Commissioners got the paperwork Xmas Eve, for a 6th Jan start!

Certainly was! By the looks of it, service 59 follows the same route as Scarlet Band's 58 between Cassop and Durham Bus Station, before then extending to the Arnison Centre. Service 58 only runs Monday to Saturday, so I'm guessing that's the reason for the Sunday's only 59.

Yes, the 59 service extended from Cassop to Wheatley Hill and Thornley (Wheatley Hill and Thornley in a circle).

map of the 59 is at this link: http://durham.pindarcreative.co.uk/Level2/default.asp

I would of thought GNE would of renumbered it as 258 as it would be inline with the East Durham Brand sequence

Yeah, that would probably make sense - although, in my opinion, I don't think the 59 is going to last very long.

I think its only on a trail, dont know how long for, its secured by DCC because Cassop wouldnt have a bus service on a Sunday, since DCC took off the 57A going through Cassop Quarrington Hill and onwards to Peterlee on a Sunday due to change of Arriva pattern of bus changes.
I've noticed that the 'Super-X' layout on the displays of some of the newer vehicles has been sorted, although I still think it looks a little different.

Sure have. I was waiting for Hanover to produce a software update for the blind which they have now sent. All Tyne Tees Express B9's and Saltmeadows Solo vehicles are done along with 7 of the 8 Volvo B9's that have arrived for the 10's.

Still to do are Solo's at Deptford, Red Arrow and Angel B9's.

The difference is that it uses 1 line of LED's more.
Fast Cats branded 4975 was on 56 today.
Service changes for 24 March listed on the website. Main changes are in the Sunderland, Peterlee, Gateshead and North Tyneside area.

A couple of oddities today:
Blaydon Racers 5282 making a rare appearance on the TEN.
Doxford Clipper 603 making the Fab Fity Six this evening.

Ex-London BX54 UCO (5357) which briefly appeared in service before Christmas will return after extensive work at Smiles (where it currently is), with a new Cummins engine I am told.

Northern 3865 and 3803 have had 1913-2013 stickers applied around the "Northern" logo to commemorate the 100 years of Northern General. A sign of things to come.....
