I think bus lanes would just move the problem further out from the Cheshire Oaks site , you need to bring the problem closer to the site not further away . Serious thought has to go into a park and ride site for Cheshire Oaks now , even if it means double decking the Park and ride site at Chester zoo . |

RE: Stagecoach MCSL - Chester & Wirral Depots
Bus lanes wouldn't help really because of the amount of lane changing which would need to happen. If however the routing was reversed, it would work better I think. On current routing, I think from the Coliseum bus stop, perhaps the buses could stay in the left lane and then on approach to the roundabout (where the left turn is segregated and the entry to the roundabout splits into 2 lanes), there could be 1 lane for normal traffic (Straight and right) and 1 lane for buses. Down Coliseum Way past the bus laybys would be useless as this is pretty quiet at all times and any bus lane would mean cars going to the multi story would end up crossing paths. Outside Ralph Lauren, it would cause too much issue. Left lane is for left and straight on (Car park B, C & Mc Donalds), right lane for Car park B and exit. Any bus lane here would mean crossing lanes close to the roundabout therefore making the bus lane useless. From the actual Cheshire Oaks bus stops to the big roundabout, this gets far too busy as it is and it would delay things in the Oaks too much, potentially putting buses at more risk. Kinsey Road though would be fine for a bus lane upto the Blue Planet (with small space for left turn lane into Little Stanney). If possible, another enhancement I would make is for left from Kinsey Lane onto Longlooms Road to be segregated so vehicles don't have to enter the main roundabout to turn left here. That said, buses then heading straight on towards EPort would then have to change lanes. AS for Park and Ride, McArthurGlen hate public transport, I can't see them supporting any sort of park and ride. I do like @Wirralbus's thought on double decking the Zoo park and ride but I don't know if it would be used that much. Most Oaks shoppers are coming from the motorway it seems and the Zoo wouldn't work well for them. Buses north of the Oaks to Liverpool seems to do very well and south to Chester seems relatively traffic free. It's Wales and East which needs sorting. I believe GHA used to have a fair few Oaks passengers on the SP1 but now Stagecoach are insisting on all buses trekking around Deeside Industrial Estate, it is discouraging passengers as the journey time is too long. East towards Runcorn used to be half hourly (36) and now it's down to hourly and isn't the fastest for passengers travelling longer distance. |

The Upton park and ride site isn't big enough to accommodate huge amounts of cars, unless the zoo opens up part of their car park as they have previously done, another problem is the A5117 gets just as congested as around the oaks itself, the last few days I've seen traffic queuing as far back as the Backford roundabout so the likes of the 1, X1 and the 5 would to be delayed in bound from Chester,/Mold, also traffic being forced to use the collesium entrance only adds to the bottle neck in that area so its a no win situation. Several years ago the council were looking to build a 5th park and ride site near Mickle Trafford, as well as it being a link to Chester it could become a link to the Oak, whilst I think this is an option I do feel a further Park and Ride site would be required at the Ellesmere Port end! |

Not only one route 1, X1 and the 5, route 2 too, on Black Friday route 2 terrible over half hour delay from Runcorn/ frodsham and Cheshire Oaks were terrible traffic. I was on Stagecoach Volvo Wrights 16957. I noticed driver frustrated and rushed and speed up to catch up time. |

I often wonder, in cases such as this, how do drivers get compensated - are they just paid overtime after a certain point? |

This is the beginning of the end of stagecoach running the 22. From what we've been told in march it will no longer be operated by us. Follow me on Flickr. https://www.flickr.com/people/135528304@N03/ |
