The latest comings and goings at Ensign have been published on various Yahoo groups, of interest is this, the former Metroline Trident has been acquired by Stagecoach Merseyside 'Trident LK03CEJ : Stagecoach Merseyside.' Would be interesting to see what this is for, although spares would be the most logical reason..... https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/uk-b...ges/140062 Further down the list, Stagecoach East Scotland and Stagecoach South have also acquired a couple each.

Seems strange given that Stagecoach are currently returning large number of 03/04 reg London tridents totge leasing companies who are then selling them on. I think quite a large batch went through ensign last month. I wonder why they went for one that's been owned/leased by a complete different company?

The recent aquisitions are for component recovery. It's a case of what is available at what price and condition. All the aquired Tridents are President bodied, which means they'll likely attract a lower price than the more popular ALX400.

Also - HSBC/Lombard value the former SC London Tridents as running assets - no good if all Stagecoach want is the engine and gearbox from them!

Arh so the Trident was acquired as scrap and not as a running unit.

This isn't that unusual, Stagecoach in Carlisle acquired an ex-Uno, Hatfield President/Trident which had beeen deroofed for component recovery a year or so ago.
Going back years ago Stagecoach bought a couple of written off ex-Ribble Neoplan N722/Plaxton Paramount 4000s from the 171-180 C171-180 KHG batch for the same purpose.
Quite often this can be quite frugal as the whole bus can be purchased cheaper than just a replacement engine or box.

That's precisely the reason that the ex-London X-NNO Tridents at Plymouth are being distributed around the country - it's cheaper to have the whole bus than to buy a new/recon engine.
There's also the bonus of other components being salvageable...
