As I rode route 17 to Kirkby on the August Bank Holiday, I wondered why it is extended there on Sundays and Bank Holidays ie why this route extension applies and whether it replaced a weekday route?

17 is extended on evenings as well.

On certain journeys, Monday - Saturday evenings and Sundays, you will find a full load going up to Kirkby Admin. All the night workers on the Industrial Estate and also quite a few from QVC and the odd places down Moorgate.
As for replacing a route, it covers sections of both the 217 and 227, but thats about it. More of Stagecoach keeping a service going up to Kirkby Admin as the majority of passengers who go up there have Stagecoach weekly tickets so wouldn't be able to use the 192.

The extension replaced the Merseytravel 218 some years ago which ran evenings/Sundays City Centre - Kirkby Admin. It used to use West Derby Road along its length which is already heavily commercialised and several attempts by Arriva had been made to curtail it or change the route away from theirs. Stagecoach then agreed to extend the 17 to cover it.

I wondered to ask all of you that Wrights Fioline 28531 S102TNB still at Gillmoss or gone? Everyone never mentioned them for long time.

04/55 Tridents currently at Preston & Chorley would seem the most likely then.......guess we'll soon find out.
