RE: Arriva North West - Runcorn Depot
Are their engines based on a petrol one with spark plugs? Southport's CNG Darts (6248-6251, later 2291-2294 S248-251UVR) were. I remember the roof mounted fuel tanks had to be constantly drained of water because of condensation. Do Runcorn's MANs suffer the same? The Southport ones were converted to conventional diesel power after 4 or 5 years but retained their Allison World series gearboxes and differentials which were totally wrongly geared for a lower revving diesel engine. The conversion meant an "interesting" drive to put it politely. I digress. The fact Runcorn's have lasted 10 years is a result but the MAN chassis is a more tried and tested formula than Southport 's bespoke Super Pointer Darts were. |
