Stagecoach Cumbria & North Lancashire
RE: Stagecoach Cumbria & North Lancashire
Several of the Enviro200s in Carlisle are being fitted with moustaches on the front grille in support of the Movember charity appeal.

The last of the Cumbria County Council subsidised services finished at the weekend and together with the end of the summer services, three fewer Solos are now required at Carlisle/Penrith as well as the open-toppers coming off the 78. The Solo all-day board which covered the 71 Anthorn and 101 Rockcliffe services has been cancelled and the 73, 77 and 77A have finished for the winter. To continue to give a service to Rockcliffe, two 101 journeys are run off the 520 school contract which now does only two journeys on the 94 (the 97 has been cancelled) and is usually worked by 22269. For Anthorn/Kirkbride/Newton Arlosh, two 71 journeys are run in conjunction with the Wigton school contract and today it is worked by 20459. At Penrith, the 78 (Keswick-Seatoller) has been drastically reduced compared to previous winters and is now off-peak only, linked with the X9 (West Cumbria-Newton Rigg).

The 71, 94 and 101 journeys are now all run commercially (as has the 69 since September) but they are all linked with school contracts and if Stagecoach should ever lose these contracts, these services are unlikely to survive. The 680 to Alston was held by Telford's and this has been withdrawn without replacement so the town of Alston is isolated with only a college-day service to Carlisle and a one day a week service to Hexham, which is courtesy of Northumberland County Council.

Certainly 17489/90/95 are down on the latest Stagecoach London (period 7) fleetcard as sold to Ensignbus.

Reserve vehicles 22728, 34218 and 47005 have been seen in service at Lillyhall recently and more surprisingly today 20219 was on the 31.

RE: Stagecoach Cumbria & North Lancashire
Nothing much has happened at Carlisle over the last couple of months. 20459 suffered a major failure on 9th December, was swapped with reserve B10M 20457 and has been laid up in the dead lane ever since. 22149 was on loan to Lillyhall but has returned and is often used on the 91B school service and the 0940 600 service to Cockermouth/West Cumberland Hospital, although officially it is in reserve.

The contract for the 520 to William Howard school at Brampton finished in November and since that time the 94 and 101 journeys which were linked with it have often been worked by the spare Solo (47721 or 47722) when one of these have been available rather than 22269. However notice was given on the 94 and 101 journeys and they will be withdrawn from this coming weekend. This leaves the 94 service with just one journey each morning to Crosby on Eden and will reduce the pvr at Carlisle by one SD to 11 but as there are only 12 allocated (apart from 4 at Penrith) it may be that the allocation will stay the same to give a spare SD.

The current fleetcard shows three reserve Solos - 47005/007/021 - as LCC vehicle exchange so it looks as if it will be these three.

Dart SLF 34717 suffered extensive front end damage yesterday when it collided with the front of the empty shop unit next to Home Bargains in Carlisle Bus Station. It is likely to be out of service for some time.
