RE: Impera Bus & Coach
Impera Buses, who ran bus services throughout the Wirral area and some cross-river buses to and from Liverpool, have ceased trading. All the services they ran are suspended until further notice.

We're currently seeking other bus companies to run their contracted bus services.



Impera ran the following services without any subsidy. These services will not be replaced:

31 Liverpool - New Brighton

31A Liverpool - New Brighton

39 West Kirby - New Brighton

39C Calday Grammar School - New Brighton

98 Liverpool - Town Meadow

We're looking to introduce a replacement for part of the evening and Sunday Route 31A as soon as possible.



Impera ran the following contracted services for us. These services are all currently suspended but will be replaced as soon as possible.

We're working as fast as we can to arrange for other bus companies to run these services. As services are replaced, we'll show the details next to each route:

107 Town Meadow - New Brighton

164 Woodside - New Ferry

165 Woodside - New Ferry

203 Woodside - Seacombe

207 Woodside - New Brighton

208 New Brighton - Town Meadow

213 Birkenhead - Arrowe Park Hospital

608 Woodchurch High School – Bidston (afternoon bus)

620 West Kirby Grammar School – Upton station (afternoon bus)

621 West Kirby Grammar School – Shrewsbury Rd (afternoon bus)

625 Oxton - St John Plessington School (morning bus)

625 Shrewsbury Rd – St John Plessington (morning bus)

628 Hilbre High School – Meols (afternoon bus)

633 Moreton Cross – Weatherhead High School (morning bus)

635 Town Meadow Lane – Liscard Village (morning bus)

636 Hoylake Rd – Wallasey School (morning bus)

637 Wallasey school – Hoylake Kings Gap (afternoon bus)

643 Pensby High School – Upton Station (afternoon bus)

662 Wirral Grammar Schools – Thingwall Corner (afternoon bus)

664 Woodchurch High School – Upton Village (afternoon bus)

703 Frankby – Shrewsbury Rd/Sandy Way (morning bus)

711 Ridgeway High School – Bebington Station (afternoon bus)

I do so agree. From observing Impera buses over the last few months, I've never once seen any of their buses even approaching full on any route, including the supposedly busy 39 at peak times. There simply don't appear to be sufficient passenger numbers to make the commercial routes attractive enough to other operators.

The end did appear to be on the cards for several months before, including pulling out of Liverpool contracts prematurely, then illegally removing several routes before the official withdrawal date. I agree with what jtd508110 and Rhys have said to that effect.

Signs were there, suddenly pulling off routes, not being able to pay for Fast Tags, etc.
Pity to see management jump from a sinking ship.

The other way to look at matters is that the company has now avoided a possible public enquiry and sanctions both on the firm and its' management.

Sad to see this happen again and again when companies come on the road but grow too rapidly and starve themselves of their cashflows thus rendering themselves unable to operate.

Reading the now fateful Route One article illustrates the enthusiasm and potential that management demonstrated but between the lines probably realised too late.
For a small, fledgling company they had a very professional infrastructure compared to larger firms and I would like to pass on my commiserations to them on the downfall of this project and hopefully see them again in the future having learnt from this experience.

Stagecoach are taking on the 6xx and 7xx series school services, the 9 afternoon services will be running this afternoon. Avon Buses and Arriva have the other emergency tenders.

A new Route 411 will be introduced from 4 October between Woodside - New Brighton. This will replace part of the withdrawn Route 31A. This evening only service will be run for Merseytravel by Arriva from Friday 4 October. The new timetable will be available to download later today.

A direct "copy and paste" from the Merseytravel website. Surely there's copyright laws to be enforced here?
