I am now absolutely convinced that this report has effectively cemented DOO being implemented sooner rather than later. Ref: Points 60a, 60b, 61c in the report. I suspect, short term, Platform Train Dispatch may be implemented as a result. I wonder whether, long term, instead of making guards redundant, they could give (some of) them a role as a safety critical train dispatcher on various platforms. They seem keen for the person who dispatches the train to be able to immediately stop the train by having the train brake controls immediately to hand. The only person who can do that instantly is the driver. (Also interesting that RAIB refer to it as a "fatal accident") |

I know they are visited on that Arriva Trains Merseyside route learner video on YouTube, although even back then, were very rarely used.
