Electrification was the future in the 1960's. The future should be something else by now. We really are regressing technologically.
Noted today, there is a gap in the wires of about a mile West of Astley.

East of Astley the wires are held up by a few temporary strops in a few isolated locations.

The gap on the down (Liverpool bound line) near Astley has now been wired, the up line is nearly there too.

The last of the gaps have now gone, with the exception of a very small gap on the up line near Astley. The wires are still held up in a number of places by temporary straps though.

Just been over the Moss, still a few small gaps still in evidence near Astley but a friend from Network Rail informs me that the MENTOR train will be visiting the area very soon and a that part route 'switch on' is imminent..

Looking on real time trains, most Scottish TPE services are now booked over the route from Dec 9.
Gantry work now seems complete between Pilkingtons Sidings and Huyton Junction.
