Admire the Americans for this .

Because of the attitude to their players by club/franchise owners in the USA there have been several very damaging strikes by players in baseball, gridiron and basketball in recent years.

Do we want that kind of confrontational relationship between clubs and players to be transferred (excuse the pun!) over here?

A contract is a contract .
Sounds like you think a players contract is just a worthless piece of paper.

Err, when did I say that?

What I did say is that in the US club/franchise owners have a much more confrontational approach to professional sportmen and women. The result of this attitude has been a series of very damaging disputes in recent years.

Is that what you want over here?

RE: 2013/14 Football Season
Joe Hart is one of the most error-prone goalkeepers I've seen in years, yet howler after howler is seemingly brushed off by 'expert' pundits.

Compare that with Gigi Buffon, who is one of the greatest ever goalkeepers and someone who to me has a much stronger claim to the title of current greatest keeper than Hart ever has. Buffon was made out to almost be a liability by the likes of Jonathan Pearce in the recent Confederations Cup, yet he didn't make any mistakes in the same league as the one I've just seen Joe Hart make tonight.

Just another example of the woefully biased UK-based football pundits.

On a more positive note though, what a night for Rickie Lambert. Great lad, and loved the interview at the end, no typical England platitudes. Superb goal as well!

I saw him when he started to rebuild his career at humble Macclesfield Town after being dumped by Liverpool as a teenager. Whilst he was clearly far too good to stay long in League 2, I never dreamed that he would pull on an England shirt.

A great example of how it is possible for a player to still reach the top in the English game other than via Premiership clubs' acadamy factories that are squandering so much of our home grown talent

RE: FA Cup
Today was the Extra Premlimary Round before the Qualifying Round of the FA Cup .

It amazes me to think that the FA Cup started today at the same as the start of the Premier League

In two weeks is the Premlimary Round on 31st August.

1st Q R is 14 Sept , there is three further rounds before the 1st Round .

1st Round is 9 November

3rd Round is 4 January

FA cup Final is 17 May

Oh well Liverpool were ok , could do with a bit more Football to see where we are up to this year.

Everton , this could be a year in transition as the new manager beds in .

Tranmere , it does seem that this year is already going to turn into a struggle with only 1 point from 6 , not ideal.

Let's not forget Southport, who have 6 points from a possible 9 after a decent start under a new and inexperienced manager. Hoping to get to a few matches at Haig Avenue this season.

Liverpool were OK as you say Wirralbus, main thing is to start with a win. Stoke mind you are one of my picks to struggle if not go down this season, without the stability of Pulis.

Oh you could see though in Liverpool's performance they do need to get that second goal to nail down a team , in the last twenty minutes there was more than enough chances for stoke to get back into the match and with a stronger team that could have happened .
