If 10A is standalone and IMHO the more busier of the two it'd make sense to have double decks on the 10A and all other routes on the Prescot Road corridor singles a bit like the 79/79D and the 79C set up. It would solve many of the overcrowding problems this corridor has and ideally 10/10A and even at a push 10B do need some form of double deck capacity on there.

The 10 doesn't interwork with the 10A, at least not regularly during the day. When 4206 and 4207 were used on the 10 and 10A on the same day a few weeks ago, they stuck with one route throughout the day. I think you're right to suggest the 10A is the busier of the two, with a 6 minute combined service as opposed to the 10's 12 minute service. That isn't to say that the 10 buses aren't equally overcrowded both on and off peak though.

It has been mentioned in this thread that double deckers are likely to be ordered next year to cover both the 10 and 10A routes in full. This would give the route (and the Prescot Road corridor) the capacity improvement it has been crying out for.
