The plan is Volvo B7R/Plaxton Profile coaches for route X5

Various photos of the ones at Gillmoss are on my Flickr stream Smile

X8??? X8 takes too many people. As you can't have standing passengers, it is too big of a risk to have them on the X8. X5 is somewhat new (between Speke and widnes anyway) and as Arriva use Pulsars, unless there is a massive market for express bus travel between Widnes and Liverpool, these coaches will never be in a position where they are so busy, passengers would be standing. Personally, I think Enviro 300s would be good because of how fast and fuel efficient they are but then there is no USP compared to Arrivas X1.

The speed/acceleration of the vehicle is totally irrelevant when operators are deciding what type of vehicle to use on a route. USB charging points and WiFi are easy enough to retrofit as well

This is starting like the X2 with coaches, if it gets popular which it might well do then something else will be used and so on. Think some people in here need to think back to how other routes started. Stagecoach know exactly what they are doing and have a better idea than most of us on here.

Exactly that as MPTE1955 says - X2 started with old coaches, then onto refurbished but 'not new' deckers and has since had two sets of brand new deckers so you never know!

Stagecoach will have researched all the possible outcomes and scenarios before diving in with new routes.
I think it will be slow at first but isn't all new routes when starting off from scratch and using veichles which must be already paid for and made for express work makes good buissness sense as it won't be pushed to make mega profits straight away .
