This report highlights how Arriva run many buses in areas served by Arriva Rail North. What is ridiculous is that one government body awards Northern to Arriva, while another government body decides to investigate whether it might be anti-competitive. Talk about lack of joined-up thinking! Mind you, it was similar in the late 90s when ScotRail was awarded to National Express, who soon after were instructed to divest Scottish Citylink. |

In a 60 minute off-peak period between Manchester and Stockport you have: Buxton (Arriva) Hazel Grove (Arriva) Chester (Arriva) Stoke (Arriva) Crewe (Arriva) Alderley Edge (Arriva) Cleethorpes (First) Birmingham and beyond x 2 (Arriva) London x 3 (Virgin/Stagecoach) Norwich (Stagecoach) South Wales (Arriva) I make that 8/14 services but if you count capacity opposed to number of services then Arriva would probably provide less than half of the seats. |

I just think the CMA have nothing better to do then scrutinize things that could make things better for the passengers as just look at them when stagecoach buy someone or take over another firm they look into it and get involved as sometimes the CMA make things look worse than what they are. |

Its only when you realise that Arriva have a good chunk of the railway in the North that things dont seem to add up and that a CMA investigation is warranted . |

We seem to have gone a while without a 319 failure. Are they finally getting these things under control now? |
