RE: Bus-Related Outings & Reviews
Today, I went out around Merseyside because I had nothing better to do! Here's what I rode on:

55 (ANW) - Netherton, Northern Perimeter Road > Bootle, Stanley Road
Pulsar 2 MX09 LYA (2941)
Clearly still in "slow mode", however the driver wasn't driving very fast (but not too slow), either. Also, the bus only features four opening windows, rather than the usual six - horrible for this type of warm weather!

52A (ANW) - Bootle Strand Shopping Centre > Queen Square Bus Station
Pulsar CX58 EXK (2918)
This bus has been in "slow mode" since January! The driver was fast and the bus sounded nice, however it felt like it was going to fall apart!

13 (ANW) - Queen Square Bus Station > Stockbridge Village, Leach Croft
Pulsar 2 MX09 JHY (2960)
Another "slow mode" example... Unbelievably slow up hills - it was on gear one on one of them and it was slowing down even then! The driver was very fast and the bus sounded fantastic! Rattles were horrible, though.

12 (ANW) - Stockbridge Village, Leach Croft > Deysbrook Lane Tesco Supermarket
Marshall T619 PNC (7619)
Horrible bus! It stunk of burning, the back-end window was squeaking like mad and there was a strange ticking noise coming from the engine when it was in motion. The engine sounded quite nice, though.

13 (ANW) - Deysbrook Lane Tesco Supermarket > Queen Square Bus Station
ALX200 R313 CVU (2313)
I was shocked when I boarded and looked at the... disgraceful seating arrangement! Internally, the bus looked very tatty! The woman driver was fast though and the engine sounded fantastic - interestingly, it never changed to gear four at all!

18 (ANW) - Queen Square Bus Station > West Derby, Muirhead Avenue
Pulsar CX07 CTE (2643)
I missed sister-bus CX07 CSZ (2642) on the 10B, so I decided to board this one (I'll catch 2642 another time). The bus sounded very strange after gear two, and its' gearbox seemed to have been acting up, too - constant jolting out of one when going off the line. It sounded nice, though.

62 (ANW) - West Derby, Muirhead Avenue > Bootle Strand Shopping Centre
Pulsar 2 MX59 FGA (3021)
Decent driver and a decent Pulsar, for once! The only issue with this bus was the horrific "shelf vibration", which clearly disturbed other passengers! I managed to fix it using an empty cigarette box at the back of the bus - actually worked!

53 (SM&SL) - Bootle Strand Shopping Centre > Queen Square Bus Station
Enviro300 PO61 NTK (27773)
A fine bus! The driver was a bit sluggish at times - probably because he was running early. Barely a rattle, though.

52 (ANW) - Liverpool, Sir Thomas Street > Netherton, Glovers Lane
Pulsar 2 MX59 FFY (3019)
This bus makes me fall asleep with a slow driver! The second driver was OK, though. The bus squeaked absolutely horrifically from the cab-area - hard to actually fall asleep!

That noise on 7619 in motion is something to do with the cylinders I think.

It wasn't too loud on-board, however I seen it later on in the evening driving into Queen Square Bus Station and when it was driving further inbound, I could hear it! Confused

RE: Bus-Related Outings & Reviews
Today, I went out to try and find some buses of interest. Here's what I rode:

52 (ANW) - Netherton, Glovers Lane > Bootle, Stanley Road
Pulsar CX58 FZH (2926)
I haven't had this bus for a while. It was a very good runner and featured very few rattles. The woman driver was fast, too!

52 (ANW) - Bootle Strand Shopping Centre > Queen Square Bus Station
Pulsar 2 MX09 LYJ (2947)
I was made up when I seen this bus turn up with a decent driver! Fantastic ride - dead quick off the line, every time!

14 (ANW) - Queen Square Bus Station > Broadway, Utting Avenue East
Pulsar 2 MX10 DCV (3059)
I was going to try and track this bus down on the weekend, however I seen it today and decided to get it done and over with. It sounded great, however the slow woman driver, who was on gear two for most of the journey, ruined the ride!

14 (ANW) - Broadway, Utting Avenue East > Queen Square Bus Station
Pulsar 2 MX61 AVZ (3073)
When I first got on-board, the driver was very slow. Then, strangely, he was driving at about 40-MPH through the 20-MPH zone! He continued to drive fast throughout the rest of the journey - excellent ride!

7 (ANW) - Queen Square Bus Station > Huyton Bus Station
Pulsar CX58 EWR (2902)
Such a slow bus... On the many hills en-route, the bus barely made it past 20-MPH - like it couldn't get off gear one! The driver was very fast - kickdown all the way!

10B (ANW) - Huyton Bus Station > Queen Square Bus Station
Pulsar 2 MX59 JJV (3029)
The driver was fast, however this "slow" bus was so boring to listen to! It sounded like my old favourite, Southport-based MX10 BZS (3033), however I'm starting to get a bit bored of these slow machines now. Sort them out, Arriva!

56A (ANW) - Liverpool, Sir Thomas Street > Netherton, Glovers Lane
Enviro400 MX09 LXN (4431)
I was surprised when this turned up - saved me from getting on MX09 LYG (2945)! Off gear four, the bus had this strange noise that made it sound like a Merseyrail train - very nice to listen to! Both fast drivers created a fantastic ride and a fantastic end to the day!

On the hills, it barely made it past 20-MPH. The driver had his foot down at every available occasion, though!

RE: Bus-Related Outings & Reviews
A big weekend planned, with a visit to South Yorkshire on the cards on Saturday. The downside is a very early start to catch the M12 (Megabus) from Middlesbrough at 0800 to Sheffield Meadowhall, and a very late finish with the return trip scheduled arriving back in Middlesbrough at 2050 (traffic depending of course, it's been known to be late on the return run most of the time).

RE: Bus-Related Outings & Reviews
I have a big trip planned on the 27th of June to The Lakes for a week.

I am hoping to visit many places including: Barrow, Kendal, Keswick, Windermere, Ambleside and Penrith.

I am most certainly going to do a round trip on the 599 (I have heard from several people it is a must) and possibly the 516 to Dungeon Ghyll and get a photo with the mountains in the background.

Should be a great week! I am also meeting up with a couple of enthusiasts while there.

Smile Thanks,
Thomas, Tyne and Wear Reporter Smile

2902 is extremely poor, definitely in safe made, it can't be that slow and not be in safe mode really!
