North East Independents
RE: North East Independents
It now appears that the plan to purchase Munro's depot will not be proceeding and instead Perryman's are looking at a site at Charlesfield Industrial Estate in St Boswells. 12 new Optare Versas are to be added to the fleet ahead of the new contracts starting on August 12.

Initially Perryman's had lost the 67 to Travelsure, but as Travelsure were unable to provide the new vehicles needed as part of the service contract, it was given back to Perryman's.

Im a little unsure as to what kind of work this vehicle will see as it seems to big for the town service work they undertake in loftus and guisborough and a tad excessive for their local link work carried out on a night, Somthing new and perhaps a little out the ordinary to look forward to seeing on the road though none the less im sure you will agree.

X309CBT is indeed used on the 707/708 runs on a night.

Leven Valley have now repainted owned Enviro200 T13GAJ into plain white. Former T10BHN and T18GAJ are now with Manchester Community Transport re-registered MV59AJY and MV59ACX.

Munro's of Jedburgh ceased trading after service on Wednesday evening (3rd May). Although not a North-East based operator the company ran service 131 between Jedburgh and Newcastle for many years. Peter Hogg of Jedburgh are currently covering this service pending the award of a new contract by Northumberland County Council.

The other services run by Munro's have been awarded to other operators, in some cases on a temporary basis prior to the new Scottish Borders Council contracts starting on 12th August. The full list is:

20 Kelso - Hawick via Jedburgh (First, Perryman's and Peter Hogg, certain journeys only)
21 Jedburgh town service (Peter Hogg)
51/52 Edinburgh - Jedburgh/Kelso via Lauder (First)
54 Galashiels local service (First)
61 Galashiels - Lauder via Earlston (First)
68 Galashiels - Jedburgh (Perryman's)
74 Galashiels - Melrose via Netherdale (First)
80 Kelso town service (Scottish Borders Council in-house fleet)
81 Kelso - Morebattle/Yetholm (Perryman's)
83 Kelso - Sprouston (Scottish Borders Council in-house fleet)

Yes indeed, 3rd July. My bad! Hammer

Munro's had announced to both Scottish Borders Council and Northumberland County Council on Tuesday (2nd July) that they would be finishing after service the following day. I believe that it's been cash-flow problems that has brought on Munro's demise, although recent events such as the O-licence reovcation, subsequent unsuccessful appeal and the granting of a new licence, plus the recent contract losses to Perryman's, won't have helped their cause. There was a lot of speculation about the future of Munro's over the last few months and doubts expressed about the future of the company, which have proven to be correct.

The 51/52 and 61 are being run by First on a caretaker basis until Perryman's take over the contracts for these services on August 12th; the 68 has actually passed to Perryman's ahead of the August start date.

RE: North East Independents
As a 'by-the-way' it hasn't taken long for the local wags to have a little fun at Munro's expense.

Doing the rounds on Facebook just now there are a couple of pics of one of the entries in the Jedharts' Callants Parade, of a mock-up of a Munro's bus, with wry digs at the erstwhile company's Jedliner branding ('Shedliner') and the breakdowns which were a common occurrence on the 51/52 in recent years ('Munrosstuckatthesideoftheroad.com, getting you where you want to go - eventually!') and perhaps the clincher, a registration plate reading BU55TTT. Laugh

I hope the chap who entered the Munro's mock-up got a prize for sheer comedy value - and for his sake that Ewan Farish and Bruce Campbell, the two former owners of Munro's, weren't watching!

Donald Cameron, who until a few years ago ran Munro's alongside Ewan Farish until he left following a disagreement, was watching the parade and saw the mickey-take. He thought it was hilarious!
